The Democratic candidate Joe Biden beat President Donald Trump on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The country that Biden will be the President of is left divided, diseased and filled with racial tension.

Many watched the results closely as days passed, tracking state and county websites for each vote to be counted accurately. Ultimately, Pennsylvania is what helped push Biden into victory. Biden was able to reach 279 electoral votes, while Trump only received 214.

Listen below how citizens of El Paso, Texas feel about the new president elect, Joe Biden.

Minero Magazine asked its readers to share their OPINIONS on Biden’s victory.

“I really don’t have the adequate words to express how elated I was and am upon hearing news of Biden’s win. This is not only a win for Biden and Harris, this is a win for the United States, and fundamentally, this is a win for morality. Under Trump’s Administration, vital threads of the American fabric such as morals, ethics, decency, and even truth were all either disregarded or non-existent. I am now hopeful that with Trump out of the White House, we can begin re-building what he has so fundamentally destroyed,” Ruby A. Montana.

“When D. Trump was elected for president in 2016, I was a senior at Texas State University. That night I went to sleep crying, afraid of what this meant for my community, the Latino community.  I knew what was to come- all of us Latinx progressive democrats could predict the disaster of the next four years- but it was far worse than I could have imagined. As a first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrants, I felt disappointed and frustrated. Every personal and generational battle in my life, became heavier and more bitter. The people of El Paso do not experience much racism in a majority Latino city. They don’t realize how important their vote is, and I hope this victory reminds them of that responsibility.  This year, as a marketing volunteer for Veronica Carbajal’s mayoral campaign, I learned the importance of local elections. I would like to see more engaged citizens participating in city hall meetings or local elections. I learned so much from volunteering, and I got to meet many like-minded people.  Today, November 7th, 2020 was the first time, in a very long time, that I felt relieved and optimistic about the future of this nation. We still have a lot of work to do- but for now, we must celebrate this victory wholeheartedly. We did it!!!!!!,” Jeanette Nevarez.

“I admit that I was on the back of my seat the whole time, the last thing I wanted was a repeat of 2016 when everyone thought Clinton would win yet Trump did so by surprise. To the last minute I didn’t trust what the polls said or who was leading also because of this, so I was probably more mentally prepared for a Trump reelection than a win for Biden. Back in the earliest elections he actually was the one I liked the least as I went for Bernie (and because he really seemed to mess up in his speech) but he seems to have changed his opinion on some things, so I have regarding him. I think it’s most important that we as voters hold him to account to what he’ll do as president, since he has much to do,” Carlos Vazquez
